Terms of service
Last updated: 24 October 2026
These terms apply when you use Klaru at klaru.online. Klaru is provided by Nowtek (nowtek.co.za), a South African business. By creating an account or using Klaru you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy.
What Klaru does
Klaru records in-person meetings using one or more phones or computers, then produces a transcript, a summary, the matters discussed and formal minutes. These are made with automated speech recognition and AI.
Your account
- Keep your sign-in details safe. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- Give us correct details, including a working email address.
- You must be old enough to agree to these terms where you live, or have a parent or guardian agree for you.
Recording and consent
You may only record people who agree to it. Klaru asks every person who joins with a device to agree before recording starts. If people in the room do not join with their own device, you must tell them they are being recorded and get their agreement first. You are responsible for following the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and any other law that applies to your meetings.
Plans and payment
- Trial is free: 1 recording a month of up to 60 minutes, and meetings stay open for 30 days. Some features, like downloads and translation, are Pro only.
- Pro costs R199 a month or R1,990 a year per person, including VAT. Payments are taken in rand by card through PayFast and billed by Nowtek.
- Pro renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
- You can cancel any time in Settings. Pro stays on until the end of the period you already paid for. We do not refund part periods, except where the law requires it.
- Switching from monthly to yearly applies straight away: we credit the unused part of your current period and you pay the difference. Switching from yearly to monthly starts at your next renewal.
- If a payment fails, PayFast will try again. If it still fails, your account goes back to the free trial.
- We may change prices. A new price only applies from your next new subscription or plan change, and we will tell you before it does.
Your content
Your recordings, transcripts and notes belong to you (or your organisation). You give us permission to store and process them only to run Klaru for you. We do not sell your content and do not use it to train AI models. You can delete meetings at any time.
Fair use
Don’t use Klaru to:
- record anyone secretly or without their agreement;
- break the law or anyone else’s rights;
- try to break, overload or get around the security of the service;
- resell Klaru without our written permission.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules.
Accuracy
Transcripts, summaries and minutes are made automatically and can contain mistakes, especially with background noise or people speaking over each other. Check anything important against the recording before you rely on it. Klaru links every topic to the moment it was said to make that easy.
Availability
We work hard to keep Klaru running, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may change or improve features over time.
Liability
As far as the law allows, Nowtek is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for Klaru in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act or other law that can’t be excluded.
Closing your account
You can stop using Klaru at any time. Cancel any subscription in Settings and ask us to delete your account at hello@klaru.online.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is important, we will tell you before it applies. Using Klaru after that means you accept the new terms.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa.
